Draft — not yet reviewed.This page is a working draft for the project owner to review. It is not legal advice and may change before it is final.

Terms of use

Draft prepared October 2026. Effective date to be set by the owner.

These terms cover the surfski.io website and the Surfski open-source project. By using the website or the software, you agree to them.

1. The software is MIT-licensed

Surfski is published at github.com/rayhu/surfski under the MIT license. Your use, copying, modification and distribution of the software are governed by that license. If these terms and the license conflict about the software, the license wins.

2. No hosted service

The project does not currently operate an email service, and this website does not give access to any mailbox. When you run a Surfski instance, you are its operator, and you are responsible for:

  • keeping the server, its secrets and its backups secure;
  • complying with Google’s terms, including the Google API Services User Data Policy, and with the terms of the MCP client you connect, such as Claude;
  • getting appropriate consent from anyone whose mailbox is linked, and publishing your own privacy policy if other people use your instance;
  • complying with the laws that apply to you and your users.

3. Acceptable use

Only link mailboxes you are authorised to access. Don’t use Surfski to access, monitor or send email on behalf of anyone without their permission, or to send spam or unlawful content.

4. AI-generated content

Surfski gives an AI model access to email. Models make mistakes and can be misled by instructions hidden inside emails. Review drafts before you send them. You are responsible for any email sent from your mailboxes.

5. No warranty

The website and the software are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, as stated in the MIT license. To the extent the law allows, the project maintainers are not liable for any claim, damages or other liability arising from the website or the software, including lost or disclosed data.

6. Third parties and trademarks

Surfski relies on services run by others, including Google, Anthropic, GitHub and Cloudflare. Their own terms apply to your use of them. Surfski is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Google or Anthropic. Gmail and Google Workspace are trademarks of Google LLC. Claude is a trademark of Anthropic PBC.

7. Changes, law and contact

These terms may change. Updates will be published on this page with a new date. These terms are governed by the laws of [owner to choose jurisdiction]. Questions can be raised as a GitHub issue, or via [owner to add a contact email address]. See also the privacy notice.
